Event Review - Voice Over IP (VoIP) Explained
Posted: 16-Nov-05

Voice over IP was explained in great detail this morning at Furze Hill Conference Centre. Comcentrixs showed us the technology, not just in their presentation but also via a live conversation to their office in Munich complete with 2-way video.

This emerging technology cannot be covered without getting into technical language and complex diagrams. Some of us less techie people struggled to keep up with this but to others this is the language they came to hear. Overall, this is a complex topic with many systems arriving on the market and lots to understand. What we did all understand was that a working VoIP system is very new technology and that it is fast replacing existing POTS (Plain Old Telephone Systems - thank you to Comcentrixs for that acronym!) because of its outstanding flexibility and low cost phone calls. The technology behind the quality of call is improving all the time.

Please have a look at Comcentrixs presentation available for download below. It is quite a large file so be patient but it will give you a lot of background information you need to know if considering purchasing a new telephone system, or you just want to know more about the technology.

For those wanting to discuss systems and prices please be in contact with Mike Barter at mbarter@comcentrixs.com

Thank you to Comcentrixs for sponsoring today's event.

Some feedback:
"Thank you for the meeting today. It was most useful and enjoyable.
I have found on thinking about today's events, that it will be very
influential on my normal daily business activities for a number of years to
come. Even though the meeting was quite technical, the principal of VoIP and
the benefits it can bring are not to be ignored.

Thank you.
