Event Review - Internet Security and Business Protection
Posted: 14-Sep-05

This morning we were pleased to welcome a number of new faces at the eBusiness Club meeting at the Holiday Inn, Basildon.

Mark Exley from LapSafe gave us a run through some frightening security statistics and then showed us several ways of protecting laptops and PC's from theft. These included both physical prevention and various software tracking systems. As Mark said, it is "The last layers cause the most inconvenience to the thief". We have had to strip out all the graphics from Mark's presentation so it is quick to load but please also visit their website http://www.lapsafe.com/

Mat Bachelor gave us a superb graphic description of how the https. secure padlock works. Even without any pictures or props I think we could all see a padlocked box containing a key flying across the Internet! And yes, he did explain that its all done by code really! Mat can be contacted at MatBatchelor@itnetworksuk.com

The Practical Internet Security presentation from John Winterbotham explained the hardware, software and human controls that we can use to protect our businesses from Internet hackers and the like. John is a regular presenter at the Essex eBusines Club and his common sense approach to Internet Security is very valued. John's websites are http://www.42consulting.co.uk/ and

The panel had some lively discussion. We welcomed Neil Peacock, Datatrieve who has an online backup solution which is to be highly recommended to those who cannot store backups off site as well as to larger businesses.

Please remember the Forum on this site to pose questions on this or any other eBusiness topic. There are lots of experts out there who can help!
